Book chapter from the Signal Theory and Communications Area

Maitane Barrenechea and Mikel Mendicute, both researchers from the Signal Theory and Communications Area of Mondragon University, have contributed with a chapter to the book “Advancing Embedded Systems and Real-Time Communications with Emerging Technologies”, which will be soon published by IGI Global. The chapter, entitled “Implementation strategies for high-performance mutiuser MIMO precoders”, has been written in collaboration with Professors Andreas Burg (Head of the Telecommunications Circuits Laboratory at EPFL) and John Thompson (Researcher at the Institute of Digital Communications of the University of Edinburgh).

The book focuses on the design of efficient algorithms and architectures for the implementation of non-linear precoders in wireless multiple-antenna (MIMO) multiuser systems. Precoding schemes allow the separation of user signal at the transmitter side, thus allowing the users to share the same resources, such as frequency band or time-slot. Non-linear precoders, specially vector precoding (VP), can clearly outperform linear schemes at the cost of a complex and expensive real-time hardware implementation. Therefore, the research work described in this book chapter focuses on the design of computationally efficient high-throughput non-linear precoders and the optimal architectures for their implementation.
