The 2015 Co-summit is being celebrated on 10 & 11 March in the bcc Berlin Congress Center in Berlin, Germany. The event is jointly organised by ITEA, the EUREKA Cluster on Software-intensive Systems & Services and by ARTEMIS Industry Association. The association for actors in Embedded & Cyber-Physical Systems within Europe. The 7th edition of the Co-summit is dedicated to ‘Smart industry: impact of software innovation’.
SafeCer Final Open Workshop
As pre Co-summit event, the SafeCer Project’s Final Open Workshop took place on Monday March 9, 2015. The Workshop presented the main outcomes achieved during the SafeCer Project related to Functional Safety Argumentation, Certification of Components, Component Modelling and Process Development. In addition, the Prototype Tooling implemented in the Project was introduced, as well as Demonstrators developed for the SafeCer Industrial Domains. The Industrial Domains targeted in SafeCer are automotive and construction equipment, avionics, railway and cross-domain applications.
Supported by the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union (ARTEMIS), Calls 2010 and 2011, and National funding of the Partners’ countries, the SafeCer Project was launched in April 2011, targeting increased efficiency and reduced time-to-market by composable, incremental safety certification of safety-related embedded systems.
Mondragon Unibertsitatea (MU) is one of the partners of the project, researchers from the Software Engineering and Web Engineering and Distributed Real Time Systems research teams of the embedded system research group have been working in the project during four years.
MU has been involved in the use cases and demonstrators of the Railway domain. And it has also developed an Educational use case during the project with the objective of transfering the results and the generated knowledge to the new professional in this area and provide practical examples to students in order to adquire knowledge about the development of safety-critical embedded systems. The use case has been used in the Embedded systems Master in several courses. The goal of the use case is to develop an elevator system control. The elevator system is composed of 2 or more elevators and they lift or bring down a load in a coordinated way. Each elevator has attached a motor, up and down sensor, and shaft rotation sensor that is used to infer position and speed. The considered safety requirement is that “If one elevator stops, the others must stop within 50 millisecond”.
A mock-up of the system has been showed in the final open workshop and in the co-summit.
Co-Summit
Interesting projects are being exhibited in the Co-Summit, all ranging from large-scale consortia to smaller but still cross-disciplinary projects. Including four Artemis projects where Mondragon Unibertsitatea is participating:
- nSafecer (Safety Certification of Software-Intensive Systems with Reusable Components): Already mentioned as its final open workshop was celebrated as pre-summit event.
- nShield (embedded Systems arcHItecturE for multi-Layer Dependable solutions): This project is the continuation of pShield project. It will provide a roadmap to address Security, Privacy and Dependability (SPD) by developing new technologies and consolidating those already explored in pShield. The state of the art in SPD of single technologies and solutions will be improved and integrated with an innovative, modular, composable, expandable and high-dependable architectural framework, concrete tools and common SPD metrics. This project has been successfully completed and it is also exhibited in the Artemis Walk of Fame.
- Crafters (ConstRaint and Application driven Framework for Tailoring Embedded Real-time Systems): Crafters aims to significantly reduce total cost of ownership, time-to-market and the number of development assets by introducing a holistically designed ecosystem through a tightly integrated multi-vendor solution and tool chain that complements existing standards. Feature-limited releases of reference tools will be released and platforms will become available to support the evaluation and adoptions of the results.
- Arrowhead (Production and Energy System Automation Intelligent-Built environment and urban infrastructure for sustainable and friendly cities): Arrowhead is a pilot project of 4 years that is addressing efficiency and flexibility at the global scale by means of collaborative automation for five application verticals. That means production (manufacturing, process, energy), smart buildings and infrastructures, electro-mobility and virtual market of energy.
And one ITEA project:
- Accelerate: The aim of the Accelerate project is to create services to accelerate the speed from ideas to business, based on the needs of the European technological industry. The services will be implemented in technological innovations, streamlined processes and new software technologies.
