MGEP on the ENTREPRENEURIAL UNIVERSITIES CONFERENCE

During the 24-27 of April, there has been the 4th International FINPIN Conference on
Entrepreneurial Universities in Münster (Germany) and workmates from Industrial
Management have been there representing the Faculty of Engineering – University of
Mondragon (MGEP) and presenting a paper related to MGEPs Entrepreneurial Support Activities.

The Conference has been an international meeting and discussion forum for practitioner
and researchers on entrepreneurship and education. Moreover, there have been top key
note speakers on entrepreneurial issues, such as: Paul Hannon, CEO of the National Centre
of Entrepreneurship in Education, Peter Baur, Unit Head at DG Education and Culture at
the European Commission, Dr. Henriëtte van Eijl, European Commission Policy Officer DG
Enterprise and Industry and Dr. John Smith, Deputy Secretary General at European University Association (EUA).

On the whole, the core topic of the conference has been the discussion about the
characteristics of an Entrepreneurial University. In the following figure there are shown some of these characteristics  (Gibb et al., 2009).

characteristics of an Entrepreneurial University.

Furthermore, one of these characteristics is the University Business Cooperation (UBC), which is composed by 8 different types of cooperation (Baaken and Davey, 2012).

Having a quick look to the two previous graphics, we can see that MGEPs essence is captured on it: our collaborative research model, student’s final year project in company, industry training courses (MU PLUS), etc.

These approaches and international benchmarks reaffirm our focus and help us, no doubt, to
continue on our path towards the achievement of the third mission of the university.
